There is a new proposed amendments to the Public Transport Council Act introduce in Paraliament. Bus, taxi fare cheats could end up in jail!
Amazing, isn't it? I reckon ¼ of the Singaporean will do time at least once in their life time. Is this the Swiss standard of living we are talking about? So much so for compassion and grace society.
It says,
Bus companies, for example, lose an estimated $9 million a year to fare cheats. Typically, a dishonest commuter taps his ez-link card on the exit reader well before his intended stop. This way, he is charged a lower fare.
My comments,
How do the bus companies arrived at this figure?
$9 million a year is about $25,000 a day. Assuming everybody cheat 10 cents, that 250,000 commuters cheat each day! Now, if really that many, how do they know?
Was 250,000 commuters caught cheating? If not, how do they arrived at this figure? NKF also told us, their reserves can only last 3 years but in fact it could last 20 years.
The bus companies spent millions implement ezlink system and yet they are still ineffective against cheats. Despite all the overcharging by ezlink, forgotten to tap when alighting therefore the full fares was collected and yet losing $9 million a year to cheat?
Is this a joke???
Ezlink was setup to reduce the 1 million dollars lost annually for bus fare cheats after setting up instead lose $9 million year? EZ link system that is supposed to solve the problem of cheating, and yet, after spending millions on this system they still cannot solve the problem.
The EZ link system is expensive and doesn't deliver its promise.
What if the bus company overcharge the commuters? Do the drivers or one of their management go to jail?
Very soon, we will need to pay for parking and COE for our bicycle.
This day will come, I tell you.
