Can you remember who is first person you ever likes.

I mean as in likes the person not to that extend as love yet. Can you remember when he/she gave you that killer smile at you? I bet 10 out of 10 are someone from your school. How can you not recall you have had the kind of symptoms like loudly thumping heartbeat whenever he/she talk to you.

Well,.....for me the first girl I ever likes was in my primary school, I think like primary 1 or 2.

Journey down memory lane to my primary school with me.

Year: 1976 / 77
School: Pearl Hill Primary School
Grade: Primary one or two

I met her first time in class and her short silky hair memorize me. The way she would carry her bag, listened attentively to the teachers and taking down notes in class was most enjoyable to watch. She was kind of tom-boyish but very feminine.

The first time I spoke with her was in the lift. My primary have like cargo lift which can house about 20 school children including 2 adults. My whole class was inside the lift and suddenly I fainted. I distinctively remember her asking me if I'm ok. Teacher came over and then I slowly somehow managed to get back on my feet.

Back at the class I wanted to play with my classmate but she ordered me back to my seat, saying I just fainted and I shouldn't be playing. I was shocked but at the same time happy that someone did care for me.

Back to the old days my mum spoke Cantonese to all her children, therefore I do not understand or speak English when I was in my primary one. It was a coincident that she's a Cantonese as well. From then onwards, we speak Cantonese to each other and became good friends.

I like her even more when she stand up for me when some bigger size classmates bully me. Most of the recess time whenever she and her friends played jump rope game(the rubber bands connected together) I would hid and watched her.

Ah,......memories like these make me wish I had a time-machine and a my camera to go back and capture every precious moment.

Alas, it was short lived though.

By primary 3, we were at different classes and after our PSLE, she disappeared entire from my life and I never see her since then.

30 years gone by, I don't know how is she or how she look like now. But I can tell you she is the only primary school mate I unmistakably still remember her face and her name.

Her name is Whye Yin (I forget her surname)
